A constant since the beginning days of this blog 13 years ago has been my declaration of love for Porto’s Bakery.
No es por nada, but they have always had consistently delicious baked goods and have always delivered on both quality and taste. We get an assortment of Cuban appetizers for our Noche Buena celebrations every year from Porto’s, and we also had them cater Marc and Lucy’s wedding (of course!) but that’s not important right now.
I recently reached out to Porto’s Bake at Home. (I wrote about them here and here.) “Would you be willing to sponsor one of my October Blogoversary Giveaways?” They did not hesitate to say a big YES.
Listen carefully, my people living in El Exilio Del Exilio who don’t have a fabulous Cuban bakery nearby…
Portos Bake at Home has offered to send out a box of two (2) dozen Bake at Home items of your choice to one (1) lucky winner! This is EVERYTHING!
I usually go straight for the Refugiados and the Cheese Rolls. (Trust me on this.) But they’ve just added a new Brownie Cookie that you can only get through Bake at Home that I’m anxious to try as well.
The beauty of buying the frozen Bake at Home deliciousness is that you can make them all at once for a party (which I do all the time). Easy to do with the simple instructions in each box.
The party thing is right up in my wheelhouse because we do movie nights regularly and I order the frozen Porto’s Bake at Home all the time. Because California and traffic. Please appreciate my ‘Chef’ Inspired Birthday Celebration. Talk about impressing your guests!
Ya tu sabes.
But, also, you can bake just one or two for breakfast each day. That’s right. Imagine a fresh, hot Refugiado right from your oven in the morning with your coffee.
One of life’s greatest pleasures.
However – and I say this with great love – if you have not yet tried the Porto’s Bakery Classic Potato Balls, you haven’t yet lived.
Let’s quickly recap:

The potato balls and the guava pastries. I have been wanting to try them since seeing your post.
Meat pies and refugiados por favor!!
Hi Marta!!!! We do have Vicki Bakery here in Miami, but I would love to taste Porto’s which you have
so fondly spoken about for years. So here are my choices: The Cheese Pastelitos and the Chicken Empanadas!!!!
Oh Boy!!! 🙂
Refugiados que cheese rolls are my absolute favorito!! Que rico!! 😋
The meat pies and the papa rellenas are my absolute favorite (if I had to only choose two!!) I miss my abueltios so much with them living in Burbank and us living in Nebraska. I miss my Cuban roots living in the Midwest and Porto’s just makes all of us so happy!!
Oh man picking only one would be so hard! Porto’s is always one of our first stops when we visit California! But I’m already looking to order some Refugidos, cheese rolls & potato balls and some meat pies! But man what I’d give for them to do croquettes for bake at home! Being a Cuban living in Utah is tough – we need a Cuban bakery or restaurant here in a bad way!
Sin duda ninguna los pastelitos de guayaba have to be a MUST!! LOL y los rollitos de cheese pq no! Que riquerraa
How can you pick just 1 or 2???? But, if we must, Cheese and Refugiado®- Guava & Cheese Strudel are way up there!!!!!
Potato balls and refugiados!!
Oh my! So, hard to pick just one. I love pastelitos de guayaba and the meat pies look so good. My mouth is watering.
My goodness I did not know they offered this! I would want to try the potatoe balls and guava and cheese.
Que rico!
Although I want to try EVERYTHING but if I have to choose two, the Potato Balls and the Besitos cookies have picked my curiosity.
Why must I choose?? I’ve never had anything bad there! I’d order potato balls and cheese rolls – something for everyone in my home ❤️
Refugiados for me. I had Porto’s when I visited my daughter in Burbank.
Pastelitos de carne! 😘♥️🤤
¡Se me hace la boca agua!
The Chese Rolls and Refugiados are my two faves!!
Oh my! Potato balls and regugiados por favor! Love you Marta!
Masa Real & Papa Rellena!! Sounds delish…
Potato balls and refugiados. We need Porto’s in Ocala. When we go o to California we will make it a point to go to Portos. FOR SURE!!!
Me gusta potato ball y refugiados
I would LOVE potato balls and refugiados
I would love the pasteles de carne and pasteles de guayaba. Thank you!!
Pastelitos de carne! Y of course de guava. Dinner and dessert ✅ ❤️
The Guava & Cheese strudel, and since you recommend them the potato balls!
Hi Marta!
I would definitely want las empanadas de pollo y los refugiados! I mean, lo quisiera todo pero if I had to pick, those are my choices:)
Marta felicidades on 13 Years in the Blogosphere! What a special treat, this giveaway from Porto’s Bakery I would love: Cheese and Spicy Pepper Potato Ball® or the Potato Ball®!! They look and by the description sound amaze-balls (sorry couldn’t help myself)!!! Thank you for the opportunity! Love you!
Hi Marta,
The Pastelitos de carne and refugiados please.
I drool over these when I see your part posts! I would love to try the meat pies and the brownie cookies 🙂
Hola Marta! Como está?
Pastelitos de carne y papas rellenas, por favor!
Muchas gracias!
chicken empandadas and the guava cheese 🙂
Pasteles de Guava por favor! I live in the SF Bay Area snd when visiting SoCal, a stop at Porto’s is mandatory to get my Cuban fix. I bring tons of goodies back home and share a few with the flight attendants- and even the pilots – on my flights back. They love the pastelitos as well! Buen provecho’.
Refugiados y las papas!!! My daughter lived in Hollywood & Agoura Hills for 10 yrs… we would visit every year (sometimes 2x) and our next day visit was to Porto’s!!! we would go 2 to 3 x… we live in Coral Springs (by Boca Raton) and we go to Miami every Sunday… but not to bakeries… boy do we miss Porto’s their food, pastelitos & cakes are amazing!!!
Entered my email to Porto’s mailing list for the giveaway. I didn’t see a link to enter your giveaway. I hope that was it?
I would love the papas rellenas y las empanadas de pollo.
So hard to choose… I’ll go with the meat pies!
I think I would love the Refujiados and the cheese ones you had at Lucy’s wedding. I want to introduce my son to the wonderful world of Cuban delicacies. We live in Oregon and there is nothing like that here. He will think he died and went to heaven.
Papas rellenas and refugiados! Love Portos! Thank you!
Papa Rellenas and pastels con queso y guava! They currently live in my freezer at home so I am running low. Yummy!
I would love, love … LOVE to try all of them honestly. But asi…. the Pastel de Carnesssss! That is everything missing in my life! So simple, yet deliciosa! I left NY, NJ for PA and no one around here has ANY Cuban goods! I’m intrigued that these are frozen and available for me to purchase, none the less. (I will be shopping randomly) But who wouldn’t love a taste of history? Plus, I would love to Bri g it to Mami and cheer her up!

Thank you so much for all your love of Cuban food and for sharing it with us.
I love Porto!! I love everything but when I go I always get guava pastels and cheese rolls and tamales.
Thank you again and Happy 13 years!!
Definitely, the meat pies and the cheese rolls. How I wish we had Porto’s Bakery in Central Texas.
Spicy potato balls…WHAT?
Ay Dios Mio!Everything looks so yummy! I’m sure it all smells so good too! I’m not picky, I say surprise me with what you like, I’m sure I’m going to love it and order more to share with family and friends over the holidays. ❤️
Papa rellena & pastelitos de carne pleeeze. Perfect addition to our Cuban Sunday dinners!!!
You have made my mouth water!! No such bakeries anywhere here! My favs are the pastelitos de guayaba y queso, but my gringo and half Cuban kids like pastelitos de carne.
We love PORTOS! I have purchased from the bakery (a must go to when in Calif) and I have baked with the home delivery. Believ it or not fresh baked at home is a little better than at the bakery. Fresh hot out of the oven when you want. I would like the Papa Rellenas and pastels con queso y guava if I win
Thank you
Brownie cookie and cheese roll. Yum!
Brownie cookie and cheese roll. Yum!
I grew up in Southern California eating Porto’s for most all of our birthday parties and celebrations. I’ve tried to recreate these pastelitos here in Oregon but have never been able to arrive at Potro’s quality (of course not!). My two favorites have always been Refugiados and Pastelitos de carne. So happy that they offer delivery! Even to Oregon?! De verdad?
Chicken empanadas and potato balls. Left Cuba at age 14. Most of the 57 years I’ve lived in the USA there hasn’t been many Cuban places close by to enjoy mis favoritos.
Gracias por tu blog y todos los cuentos en tu recipe book. ❤️
Hello Marta! It’s the Country Cuban’s wife, I do lay claim to be an honorary Cuban!
I would 100% for sure choose the Refugiados AND the Meat Pies. Both I make at home but I love when someone else does the cooking for me to make my celebrations easier to come together.
I am forever trying my best to expose my family to the food of your people…for Labor Day we made Fritas….no Southern Bar-Be-Que for us!
Congratulations, Marta on your blogaversary! (You make me feel like I’m included.)
Love Cuban cousine! I choose guava and cheese strudel and guava strudel!
Well I grew up is Southern California and have been going to Portos since I was young. Lived in the San Fernando Valley and going there was the weekend treat. Been there with the first bakery in Glendale, then was thrilled when they moved to the bigger building of course just a few doors down. Moved to Glendale when I got married and lived 5 minutes from there. Live in Florida now and you would think that finding a great Cuban bakery would be redundant, but haven’t found one yet. Portos is still the winner. I have gone back to visit my home state and always make my way there. Have even told them they need to branch out to Florida. I miss the bread, the cuban crackers, and they used to make a guava wheel pie thing which was my favorite but they took that away. Papa rellena always, pastellitos de carne, always, of course every birthday cake and shower cake came from there. Being Cuban there is nothing more comforting than our food and desserts. Love to make all those things at home but when you just don’t want to bother, that was my go to.
Porto’s is the best. If I win I would like the refugiados and the cheese rolls.
I moved from California to Oregon two years ago and miss my trips to Porto’s for my Cuban “fix”.
Oh my goodness! I can’t make up my mind, so anything would be great!!
I’d definitely want to try papa rellenas and pastelitos de guava y queso.
Empanadas, or Meat Pies – I may have to get both! And the Cheese Rolls! Too many great choices!
Meat Pie (Pastel de Carne)
Hi Marta. Congratulations on your big anniversary! If I am lucky 🍀 enough to win, I would like the meat pies. They look so good!!
Refugiado Guava & Cheese Strudel
Pick! Pick! Pick! I don’t know because it’s all so good! Guava and cheese pastries are a definite. Maybe the dulce de leche besitos!
Pastelitos de queso and carne are my favorites. And at a bakery I rarely leave without a couple of Señoritas.
I usually visit Vicki’s when I go trip Miami. Love pastelitos and cuban sandwiches my daughter @_jenayyy too
POTATO BALLS!
I would love to try the Guava and cheese, thats favorite Cuban pastry growing up and now 😊
Wow! Didn’t know about “bake at home”! I think my top 2 choices would be papas rellenas y rollos de queso…..no wait…. Besitos de dulce de leche y empanadas de pollo…. no, I think I would prefer refugiados y pastelitos de carne…
First of all, congratulations!
Refugiados! Porto’s catered my wedding too, 15 years later people still talk about the food. We have friends who drive over an hour just to have lunch at Porto’s. Please don’t include me in giveaway; give to someone who has never has not experienced the delight of Porto’s.
Enjoy.
Technically, you said “which Cuban FAVORITES” so I vote for trying the all! We live in Dallas, and although we have a couple of Cuban restaurants and a Cuban bakery that’s not too bad, it’s great to now know I can get it delivered to my door! My sister’s and my family do “Cuban Extravaganza” nights when we can get all our grown children together. Having them ready in the freezer would be awesome 🥰. So, I’d order up pastelitos de guava, Refugiados, pastelitos de carne, oh my!
Ana, could you send me the names and addresses of the Cuban restaurants and bakery in Dallas? My family lives in Plano, would love to take them there when I visit from Chicago. Thanks
[email protected]
Refugiados 100%….They have the perfect coefficient of creamy and sweet😋
Los pastelitos de guayaba y las papas rellenas. Aunque todos se ven muy apetitosos. Gracias
Oh my gosh, the guava and cheese strudel or the dulce de leche besito cookies…
Dulche de Leche kisses & potato balls are my favorite! My friend bought me 30 pieces of the dulche de leche kisses a week before i gave birth and i enjoyed every bite of it! I just gave birth & would love to have some of them. Haha
Pastelitos of course and dulce de leche kisses. Yumm
the guava pastries of course!!!
It’s been a while since I’ve received any emails from you guys. Always like to hear the family stories. Miss not having pastelitos de guayaba y Croquettas. Nothing out here in Chicago suburbs. Thanks

Guava strudel looks wonderful!
Refugiado are the ones I want to try so bad!! I even managed to get my Pennsylvania born and raised fiance to fall in love with the cheese rolls on our visits to Miami.
I have been dying to try the Dulce de Leche Besitos y Potato Balls! Trying to get back to my Cuban roots!
Meat Pies! Oh, my boyfriend would be so happy! He wa born and raised in Cuba until at age 13, came to the US via Spain! I can Just imagine his eyes rolling in the back of his head as he tastes the authentic flavors of his youth!!
Love your blog!! I would love the chicken empanadas and meat pies . I love Portos 💕. One of my favorite places to eat . When I’m in the L.A area.
Everything thing looks delicious but I would love to have Guava pastries and Meat pies only get when I visit Miami. It has been a long time and really all look great Hope to win Thanks and God Bless
I’ve been ordering the Guava Pastries for a couple of years. Would love to try the empanadas and meat pastries.
I’d most like to try the Sprinkledoodle Cookies
¡Los Refugiados!
I LOVE Porto’s Refugiados, potatoe balls, cheese rolls, dulce leche cookies, media noches, batido de Mamey … oh wait you only wanted two- lol

p.s; Love your blog!
Can’t wait to try all the pastries but on a fixed income so have to wait awhile but it will happen, thanks for the info
Our favorite Guava Pasteries
All the foods pictured on their site are mouth-watering; I’d have a hard time deciding. I guess because I haven’t eaten yet, the Meat Pie (Pastel de Carne) is the first one that jumped out at me. That’s surprising since I’m such a sweets-junkie.
los besitos y los pastelitos de guayaba – which i am very impressed to know are being described as struedel
Pastries de guayana are my fav
