We’re already into November and I can hardly believe that the month of October FLEW by. Se fue en un suspiro, as my mom would say.
But I still have a few more wonderful giveaways for you from some fabulous Cuban merchants to celebrate my 13 Years in the Blogosphere. Let’s just say I’m running on Cuban Time and call it good. Ya tu sabes.
Today, I’m delighted to introduce you to another Cuban entrepreneur. Self described Havanita girl, Sarai is the mastermind behind Havana 78 Artisan Soap Co. She knew she wanted to make soap and was inspired by a visit to Little Havana.
Shortly after that motivational visit to the Heart of Cubanity, she started her soap-making adventure in 2018 and found she wanted to honor her culture and so Havana 78 was born.
Today’s giveaway is a combo of some artisanal soap, handcrafted in small batches, and a delicious coconut scented wax candle with a wooden wick. The soap is called “Timba,” and the candle, “Cayo Coco.” Don’t you love them already?
Here’s how to enter the giveaway for a chance to win One (1) Timba Artisan Soap and One (1) Cayo Coco Coconut Candle.
Two ways to enter – here on the blog or over on Instagram.
To enter the giveaway, leave a comment ON THIS POST and tell me what scent best reminds you of your Cuban heritage.
Or, bounce on over to my Instagram account, follow MyBigFatCubanFamily and Havana 78 Soaps. Tag a friend on Instagram who would love this collection.
I’ll be choosing the winner on Friday, November 8th, 2019 at 11:00 am PST. You have until then to enter.
- USA only, please.

Sofrito! Not a candle or soap scent but it takes me back right into my Moms kitchen.
I never tire of the Coconut scent!

Mango y guayaba reminds me of my grandpa. Sofrito, lechón asada, mariquitas con mojo remind me of my grandma and the traditions I still keep alive for my family. Coco y piña are my favorite scents though. I miss visiting Miami because it was the closest I ever got to Cuba. So cal is still limited when it comes to Cuban stores. Thankfully I grew up in Glendale. Porto’s supplied my need, even my moms wedding cake in the 70s when they were a hole in the wall. Orange County, where I live now, has no Cuban market and their Latin markets hardly carry anything Cuban. It’s tough around Christmas and New Years. We have to drive at least an hour to buy supplies but I do it!

For me fruits and also food and of course cleaning products. Fruits like mango, coconut and guayaba remind me of my Cuban heritage. I order coconut ice creams, love to eat Cuban crackers with guayaba and look for the best mangos to buy. Also love the Aroma of a good sofrito when making my Cuban food. When cleaning I love my house “Cuban clean” so using fabuloso or pinesol on the floors are my thing. I won’t forget the violet water spray (agua de violetas) on my sheets. Hmmm. So many wonderful memories!!! ❤️❤️

My favorites are Timba and Colada. Timba reminds me when I was a kid and my mom made us timba’s for our merienda. Being always a chubby kid I couldn’t wait for that moment, lol.
Colada reminds me of the morning coffee scent that enveloped my entire house as my dad made Cuban coffee when he woke up. I still keep that tradition. After I wake up and take a shower the first thing I do is “colar cafe.” Yummy!!

My favorite Cuban Heritage scents are my Abuelita Leonor’s hand-whisked meringue for after school merienda, the caramel from her bread pudding, and (not Cuban I think) was a pineapple cake from Valencia Bakery for birthdays. This may be a New York City thing. 😉 Also, the Royal Violets mixed with holy water that was used to bless us on our way to school (“Bendicion!), and for particularly tough days, Agua Florida for “despojo” of negativity. Lol-good times!
