Of course, we agreed

I wrote about that here. “Upsizing or Downgrading?”
Lucy handled her pregnancy beautfully and the birth went smoothly.
We moved in with the Jacksons May 4th, 2025.
The Divine Miss M was born on June 2nd, 2025.

And we were happy to hold and rock while the family found their footing again and got some much needed rest. Max and Logan, then 3 and 2, were reassured that the new kid would be a good addition to their family.

Let’s not forget that now they were The Jackson Five. Delicious, isn’t it?

My contribution to this household now was to rock the baby while Eric was a perfect fun distraction for Max and Logan.

.Marc and Lucy are no slouches, and they now had 3 under 4, which is quite the brave thing to do in 2025.
And while they’re very hands on parents, my contribution was rocking the baby.

And rocking.

And rocking some more.

Full disclosure: While I loved this new-found job description, I started to question my worth. Was this it? I rock the baby and eat and sleep? Is that my new identitty?
I confess I felt a little detoured.
But this was not our first rodeo. We had Sebastian and Amy with us for a few years when he was just a little guy, which was great.

We also had Asher along with Adam & Alysha live with us for a while and we bonded with him also.
But he just turned 12 and Sebastian is now 10.

Maybe this is technically the story of how living with our kids caused us to so beautifully bond with them and that is the gift.
In spite of my ridiculous reservations.
And while Asher and Sebastian are older and have busy lives of their own, we still schedule fun time with them whenever possible.

But in between, you’ll find me rocking Miss Molly.

Still rocking.

And now playing with her and teaching her things and watching that little girl take her first steps. What a miracle. And I get to be a part of it!

I’ll be honest,
I am fully aware of what a beautiful and perfect gift we’ve been given.
We’ve bonded with our grandchildren in ways we never thought possible.

But while I have always subscribed to the idea that motherhood and raising little humans is the greatest thing anyone could ever endeavor to do, I still felt weirdly marginalized.
“So, what do you do?” Me: “I mostly rock the baby.”
See how lame that sounds? Yawn

But the honest to God’s truth? I wouldn’t trade this job description for any other I’ve had in my entire life. Even if it makes me a little squirmy.

It turns out this Baby Rocking might be my superpower. Even if I embrace it a little reluctantly sometimes.

This is who I am and I’m unashamed and unabashed.
It turns out I’ve had a pretty good track record when it comes to rocking littles.

Call me Wella.
