I have been planning this quinceañera since last year. And boy did I have big plans!
October 1st, 2006 was the day I wrote my very first post here on My Big Fat Cuban Famliy which puts me at 15 years in the blogosphere. What a celebration I had planned!
To celebrate the 15 Milestone, I was going to host tons of giveaways like I usually do. And introduce you to all my cyber-friends and show off all the Cubanity I could for the entire month of October.
Well, you know what the best intentions generally pave the way to. *sigh* I had a really rough year that I’m going to share with you in great detail, but not today. Please bear with me as I attempt to commence blogging once again after an 8 month Covid hiatus. (I swear, it’s a great story.)
Today, I’d like to get the celebration started by sharing a video where I’m wearing my special quinces dress and my crown and have my very special Barbie cake holding my logo.
My son Jon shot hours of video of me and I collected tons of videos from all my Cubiches and I originally thought I’d share it in one big fat share. But there were so many greetings (and so many are my blessings!) that I’m going to just extend the celebration for the entire month of October 2021 and share them like I would share a delicious multi-course meal to be enjoyed slowly and with deliberately.
Sadly, it’s not going to unfold in quite the way I imagined. Truthfully, I think this will be much BETTER!
So as I gather my thoughts to share this month about blogging and how i got here, let’s start with some poignant words from my dear friend, Valentin – I’m Not Crying. You’re Crying – Prieto from Babalú Blog. My brother from another mother.
Happy Bloggiversary to ME and My Big Fat Cuban Family! Let the celebrations commence! Thank you for joining the party!

God Bless You! You have provided me a constant link to memories, culture, heritage. Your posts have made me laugh, try recipes I thought I could never make like my Abuelas! You have made me cry when Luza passed. My parents passed when I was in twenties. Many things have been forgotten. Please continue the blog. You have made a difference in this Cubanas life.
Blessings!

Hi Abuela Marta!!! So happy you met your grand baby! I was crying and wiping my eyes trying to read your blog. I am also one of the lucky ones. I had to learn to walk again and have issues with my hands, arms shoulders. There are still things I can’t do. Here is the link: https://youtu.be/ymu5Wg2JH10.
Keep getting better, Emma Chong-Rivero

Marta,
Congratulations for 15 years of existence of “My Big Fat Cuban Family.’ Your website has been a blessing to this gringa. My favorite Cuban meals came from the Cuban restaurants and cafés in Miami. Lo and behold I fall in love & marry a Cuban man. I’ve enjoyed all your posts and stories about your family. Almost 20 years later I’m still trying to get the hang of making his favorites- picadillo, Ropa veijo, on and on. Latest I’m going to attempt for Thanksgiving is either flan or flan cake. For the last 5 years I’ve lived in the Midwest so getting certain ingredients is a challenge, but I always manage. I’ve learned to fry plantains – ripe & green. Well I say all of this to thank you for the encouragement your site provides me. I love your work and your heritages. May Cuba become liberated soon.
