For my birthday last month Eric got me the most fabulous gift – a projector and a giant 10 foot screen.
I know what you're thinking: "Wow. How romantic." (Not!)
But, seriously, I have been wanting this for YEARS.
But let me tell you why.
I want to show movies outside in my backyard. (I told you I love movies.)
So, we're working on getting the speakers hooked up and hoping to have a screening maybe this weekend.
I am so pumped about this, (coincidentally this month's Everyday with Rachael Ray magazine arrives in my mailbox and one of the articles is this whole casual party plan and it involves showing a movie OUTSIDE and I swear, she totally jacked my idea, and no, I'm not even tempted to serve Goat-cheese Nachos or Jalapeño Corn Muffins, but that's not important right now) But all of us are voting on which movie we will show for our First Feature.
We agreed that it would have to be a classic film with universal appeal and so we wrote down choices on slips of paper. Would you believe it was unanimous?
It is one of our all-time favorites for quoting movie lines.
Can you guess which film? Have you got a favorite line from it? {please share}
Q: Has it got any sports in it?
A: Are you kidding? Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles…
Q: Doesn't sound too bad. I'll try to stay awake.
A: Oh, well, thank you very much, very nice of you. Your vote of confidence is overwhelming.
That day, she was amazed to discover that when he was saying "As you wish", what he meant was, "I love you."It just doesn't get any better than this.
Because my dorkiness knows no bounds. =D

I knew right away, it’s also one of my all time faves. I love this line:”Whoo-hoo-hoo, look who knows so much. It just so happens that your friend here is only MOSTLY dead. There’s a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there’s usually only one thing you can do.”

I made Mike watch this the other night–believe it or not, he had never seen it! He had thought it was some silly kid’s movie. Ha! Needless to say, he was enlightened. It’s one of the best, absolutely. And…even though he didn’t get to watch the film, my 1 1/2 year old has suddenly become really interested in fencing, and keeps saying “En Garde!” and challenging us with chopsticks as he holds a metal seive over his face as a mask!

I knew it as soon as I saw the entry title. I didn’t need to read the post to know where it was going, but of course I did anyway. That’s such a cool idea. I hope that when I make it out West, I’ll be able to enjoy an outdoor screening as well. 😉

I love this movie!!My favorites lines:
[after Westley rescues her from the lightning quicksand]
Buttercup: We’ll never succeed. We may as well die here.
Westley: No, no. We have already succeeded. I mean, what are the three terrors of the Fire Swamp? One, the flame spurt – no problem. There’s a popping sound preceding each; we can avoid that. Two, the lightning sand, which you were clever enough to discover what that looks like, so in the future we can avoid that too.
Buttercup: Westley, what about the R.O.U.S.’s?
Westley: Rodents Of Unusual Size? I don’t think they exist.
[Immediately, an R.O.U.S. attacks him]
And also:
The Grandson: They’re kissing again. Do we have to read the kissing parts?
Okay, and one more “Separation” for you today – Kate Hudson to Bruce Willis.

Here’s a couple of my boring suggestions:If you can stomach Danny Glover, “Grand Canyon.”
An oldie but a greatie: “The Fountainhead.”
War movies? “In Harm’s Way” and “Saving Private Ryan.”
Femme fatale? “Chinatown.”

Annie-Can’t resist a challenge:
Kate Hudson was in “You,Me and Dupree” with Owen Wilson who was in “Armageddon” with Bruce Willis. =D

AFI just put out a 10 year anniversary of 100 years 100 movies. To help you in your viewing quest:http://connect.afi.com/site/DocServer/100Movies.pdf?docID=281
One of “our” movies made it….but not as high as I would like.

Pam-Great minds….
I downloaded the 100 list just yesterday AND the Best Quotes list, too.
Come visit me so we can PLAY!! =D
Annie says
Marta, that’s excellent! I made the connection like this: Kate Hudson was in “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” with Matthew McConaughey (hubba hubba) who was in “A Time to Kill” with Samuel Jackson who was in “Pulp Fiction” with Bruce Willis. But, wow! I really like yours better!

one of faves:”Inconceivable!” shouts Vizzini, to wch Inigo finally says, “I do not think you understand what that word means….”
Excellent choice for 1st film.
ReinieR says
you should project the movie on your garage door and sit in your car and pretend you’re in a drive in.and since you’re all obssessed with bacon you should watch footloose.
Marta says
Rei -I seriously thought about doing the faux drive-in thing, but I really like my neighbors and I don’t want them to “vote me off the island.” =D
Eric says maybe we could just remove the last seat from the mini-van and park it in the back yard. (that’s such a “guy thing”)
BTW, “Footloose” is on The List. =D
Besos!
Amy says
What is this “drive-in” I hear so much about?Just kidding! I’ve seen “Grease” so I totally know what a drive-in is. 😉
BTW, is “Grease” on The List? Or LOTR? (yeah, I just took this thing to a whole new level)
Can we watch Ocean’s 11 or ANY OTHER ANDY GARCIA MOVIE?!?!?!
