I am a Cuban woman and I wear expensive perfume most of the time. (BTW, if you didn’t know.. the two are synonymous.)
I don’t feel completely "dressed" without my perfume.
Perfume and lipstick. Those are my staples.
The other day I read this beautiful post over at Babalublog about memories triggered by familiar smells. Titled: El que tiene hijas, cena en Navidad. (if I wasn’t so techno-unsaavy, I could probably link right to it)
And I began to remember a smell that I’ve missed: Violets.
All Cuban babies smell like violets.
And all Cuban babies are beautiful. I know there is a connection.
Thanks to the beauty of internet shopping, I was able to find this:
I opened it and splashed some on right away.
And now I smell like a beautiful Cuban baby. =D

Ahhhh, aqua de violeta! I keep a bottle on my dresser along with other perfumes. My father *insisted* that his daughters wear that everyday as children. And now as adults, we still do.
Marta says
Annie -So glad you “got it.” It’s nice to be understood.
Pam Pensiero says

Melek says

Marta says
Pam -I didn’t link on purpose, because I know you! I sent some to your Baby Cecilia for Christmas – DO NOT TELL!!
Melek –
haha. Thanks for that. That’s exactly where I got it. I also like the Agustin Reyes brand, but decided on the Crusellas because it’s in a plastic bottle (for shipping to Pam’s granddaughter). BTW – I love that you send quotes. I am totally going to use that last one. =D
La Ventanita says
You know what I miss? Imperiale de Guerlain. All the older men in my family, abuelo and papi, it was the traditional male cologne.
Marta says
Ventanita -OMG! Imperiale. That’s EXACTLY what older Cuban gentlemen should smell like. Thanks for that.
Marisel says
Agua de Violetas! Memorias de mi niynes en Cuba. That smell takes me way back! Thanks.
