This post is sponsored by my favorite coffee people, Café La Llave. The opinions contained in this piece are all my very own.
It’s no secret that I love my Cuban coffee. It’s so very obviously in my Cuban DNA.
In other words, it’s a function of just being Cuban. In fact, one of my earliest memories is sitting at the breakfast table drinking my morning Café con Leche. I must have been about 5 years old. (Don’t judge.)
Today is National Coffee Day and it needs to be celebrated. Don’t you agree?
Although, my idea of National Coffee Day is any day that ends with a y, but that’s not important right now.
So, let’s celebrate National Coffee Day with a wonderful giveaway from my favorite sponsor, Café La Llave.
See this beautiful Basket of Café La Llave Coffee Goodness? I’m giving one away to a lucky MBFCF Reader.
Here’s how to enter the giveaway for the Coffee Basket: Leave a comment and answer one or all of the following questions.
- Tell me how long you’ve been drinking coffee. (Younger than 5?)
- Who makes the coffee traditionally at your house?
- Espresso or Americano?
Leave a comment here on this post to enter. Also, let me tell you how you can have a second chance to win this beautiful basket…
Go over to Instagram and “like” Cafe La Llave – then come back and say “I liked Cafe La Llave on Instagram!” (I’m going on the honor system here, but I’ll do a few spot checks to make sure you’re following directions.)
I feel like you’re going to love following them anyway, so it’s a win for both of us.
I’ll be choosing a winner on Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017 at 11:00 am. (It’s like National Coffee Weekend!)
Happy National Coffee Day! Let’s get brewing!

I grew up in Miami with Cuban family. I started drinking coffee probably at about 7 years old. I’ve long since moved away…but that amazing cafecito is such a big part of my life! I drink a dark Italian roast most days…but as soon as I get the chance to get my cafecito on I’m taken straight back to good times with great family! It makes me homesick! 💗

Mi abuelita Cubana de Havana raised me and I smelled her cafe cubano every single day so it’s been in my roots for as long as I can remember!! 😍 She would let me drink small portions at a time when I was a kid or else she would get in trouble by my parents if I came home wired all night but I loved it!😂 I started having more coffee around 10 years old and now I’m 23. She passed away when I was 12 but I’m thankful to have been raised on her Cuban roots. My family and I LOVE making cafe con leche and cortadito. Espresso all the way… ya tu sabes
Rosa Gutierrez says
Being Cuban, cafesito is part of my life. I can’t even remember how young I was when I started drinking cafe con leche. By the time I was in college, I was all about the espresso. The stronger, the better (for those late night term paper writing sessions). Now, I still drink espresso, either in my American coffee maker, or my traditional stove top Cuban coffee maker. Im the coffee making expert in my house! The only coffee you’ll see in my house is La Llave. And I’ve passed along the tradition to my kids. They know and love their Cuban coffee!

I can remember as young as five years old being awake every day by my mom, who would bring me my Cafe con Leche to my bed. This is how she woke me up everyday before school. This was my alarm clock from kindergarten through high school.
My husband and I drink coffee in the mornings at different times, so we each make our own. I prefer Americano, although after a good Sunday lunch, my hubby will have a cortadito and I have have a cafe con Leche with an flan or arroz con leche. 😊😊😊

What true Cuban hasn’t began their life with the essence of our heritage! Like you said it’s in our DNA. Even though my husband is not Cuban – my strong roots have entangled in him and my children. AIN’T THAT THE TRUTH!
Ed Hart says
I spent 32 years telling my coffee drinking (ok, obsessed) parents that coffee was bad for them. See, I was Mormon for 32 years, and drinking coffee was a “sin”. Now I totally see NOT drinking coffee as a sin! I left the Mormon church 3 years ago, so I’ve been drinking coffee for 3 years! But I drink 4-5 cups a day so I can catch up!!
I make the coffee. Don Francisco’s ONLY! Love the aroma, the taste, the Family!! I drink Americano for the most part.
Patricia Johnson says
I started drinking café Americano when I was 5. I met a Cuban family when I was 16 and they became lifelong friends. So, I started drinking café cubano at age 16 and still love it to this day. (I’m 70 years old now ! )

My Mom owned a cafe when I was in Junior high and it had an espresso machine which wasn’t common in those days and I drank a lot of coffee so I was around 13 when I started drinking coffee. I prefer Americanos and we usually make our own coffee in our house using the pods.
Athena says

I started drinking cafe Cubano in high school (I grew up in Miami). In the evenings, my best friend’s mami would pass around the treaty of cafecitos and there always a cortidito for me. Before long I was drinking straight cafecito. Then I graduated to drinking entire coladas! I’m the only coffee drinker in my house, so I make it. Most days I make cafe Americano, but I always have espresso grounds I hand to make Cafe Cuban. I love my coladas!
Faustino Rodriguez says
I must have been around 10-11 when I drank café Cubano (pure form) for the first time. Café con leche since I was like 6-7, maybe. My dad would wake up at 5:00 am every day to brew the café cubano. The smell of fresh brewed coffee in the morning will stay in my mind forever.
I am the one who makes the café cubano at my house AND at the office. My mom gave me an electric cafetera and I took it to the office. Now EVERYONE at the office wants a “cortadito” at 3:00 pm. Yes I created a monster!
I prefer my café Cubano, of course. I also love American coffee with cream, no sugar.
Martha Amidano says
My Abuela started giving me cafecito before I was five. I couldn’t go to school before drinking my cafe con leche. If i ever skipped it I would get the shakes. Lol at home mami and abuela made the coffee. In my house I make it for myself and the kids. For us is cafe la llave or nothing. El mejor cafe Cubano es La Llave.
Martha Amidano says
I like cafe La Llave on instagram. How can you give a second chance to win? Give away two baskets instead of one. At home is espresso even for my American husband.
manda says
I started my addiction early… 5 or 6. Only a little coffee and mostly milk. I really just like the flavor and I don’t think it has much to do with the caffeine. 😉
