It's no secret that we are über-nerds here at my house. Serious über-nerds.
When the kids were all little, I used to love to read aloud to them. They always preferred for me to read to them because "Mom does the voices." (But that's not important right now.)
And because we have homeschooled for years, we all spent a lot of time reading and enjoying books together.
When I was a senior in high school (en el año de la pera), J.R.R. Tolkien had just passed away. Suddenly bookstores everywhere were carrying The Hobbit and the Lord of the Ring Trilogy. It was then that I was exposed to the charming world of Hobbits and Hobbitlore.
Needless to say, I fell in love. To this day, we still celebrate Bilbo Baggins' birthday (September 22nd) and The Day the Ring was Destroyed (March 25th). See here and here. Did I mention we were serious über-nerds?
How delighted was I when Warner Brothers contacted me about helping to promote the new film, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, to MBFCF readers? (The correct answer is "über-delighted.")
Did you know that on December 14, 2012, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, will be hitting theatres? (Thank you, God, Peter Jackson, and Warner Bros.!)
Directed by Peter Jackson, based on The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien, and adapted for the screen by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, Peter Jackson, and Guillermo del Toro. It promises to be every Tolkien über-nerd's dream.
Doesn't this just look über-nerdily delicious? Yes. Yes, it does.

There are 13 dwarves for the adventure! In 1978 my 8th grade teacher made us buy the book and read only the first 2 pages of “The Hobbit”. He then gave us our assignment: based on what we had just read, draw what we each thought a hobbit would look like. My imagination went on overdrive! He was opening our minds to the fantasy world that awaited us in that book. Thank you Mr. Phil! Many of us became Tolkien uber-nerds from that point. AND PROUD OF IT!
And thank you Marta for bringing it all back!

I count 13 dwarves…and I love the look of Thorin Oakenshield. What awesome casting! I am such an über fan ( btw, I love your umlaut, so I had to copy) that I had to be almost dragged to the first LOTR movie cause I thought it would ruin it for me. Since all we had up to then was the cartoon Hobbit, I was kinda skeptical but was quickly won over. Needless to,say all of my children are über fans as well. I pulled my youngest out of school and homeschooled for a while after he read and understood the Hobbit when he was 7 and his teacher thought I was doing the reading to him. aargh! He and I are the only ones in the family that have read the Sillmarillion and loved it. Thanks Marta. Oh, and my Papi, que en Paz descanse, Was also a fan.

There are 13! And, yes, I’m a long-time fan. 😉 I also read the series in highschool and went to the very first film (animated) with all my fantasy loving friends. When the animated versions became available on DVD, I immediately got them and then my young boys were hooked, too!

I counted 10 Dwarves, but I’m no expert 🙂 It’s funny because I had never read any of the Tolkien books until my son discovered The Hobbit. He’s read it and has absolutely loved it. I would love to win the incredible prize pack, just in time for the holidays 🙂 Gracias, Marta!

You know I love everything Tolkien. I count 13 dwarves which is why they needed the 14th (burglar). Gene was the Marti in our family. He started reading after Thanksgiving starting with The Hobbit and ending with The Return of the King! He did all the voices and sung the songs! I hope I win! But if not, I’m going anyway!
