Guilt-free blogging

January 11, 2009 By Marta Darby 31 Comments

Okay, so I'm feeling a little bit guilty because I haven't been blogging lately. (shut up. I know.)

But frankly, I haven't been near a computer and I'm still up to my (Royal Shakespearean!) eyeballs in costumes and sets.

And there are still two more performances before I can breathe again (at least for a moment before I have to dress twenty-two Oompa-Loompas, but that's not important right now).

But, you see, this guilt thing works in your favor, because in order to assuage my guilt, I'm going to have to do something nice.

So I'm giving stuff away.

Well, I was intending to give something away anyway to celebrate this, my 700th post!

(I realize that celebrating having written 700 posts by complaining that I haven't been posting just drips of irony, but that's not important right now either. =D)

1) A Cafe Cubano mug from Cuba to Go!

Cafe cubano mug

2)  A Cocina Cubana apron also from Cuba to Go!
(because that's my online shop and I can give stuff away if I want to. =D)

Cocina cubana

To enter, just leave a comment on this post letting me know that you understand and forgive me for the lack of posting and I'll do a drawing on Wednesday afternoon. How easy is that?  =D

So, until then… just talk amongst yourselves.  ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hey Marta! How was the show? Please post some pics when you get the chance, I’d love to see them. Being wardrobe mistress for one of these plays is exhausting, just keeping track of all the costumes and accessories can make you insane. Hopefully you’ll get a chance to see the play from the audience (I’ve watched many of my kids’ plays from the wings, praying that the costumes will hold together for the next few performances!). Cherish these days, even though they seem to suck the life from you, it’s sad once it’s over. Aren’t you glad you have all those oompa loompas to look forward to! Congratulations on your 700th blog entry, I look forward to the next 700!
    Your humble minion,
    Angie

So I started to say to myself last week, “Self, I miss Mari blogging and Kikita has been busy as well”(now that she is on facebook)lol ๐Ÿ™‚ Then I started to get angry and said to myself,”Self, What is wrong with that woman doesn’t she know that I’m waiting to hear from her?!!!!!” And then you go and humble yourself this way. You’re the best!!!! And giving out free stuff too. What more can I say. Oh yea, I forgive you. LOL!!!!

Free stuff eh? You need to reach these blogging milestones more often. I like the way you think. Using a classic capitalist tactic of giving away free stuff to weave loyalty and consistency into your readers. If you give stuff away at random blogging intervals, I imagine you’ll build a broad fan-base of loyal minions hanging on your every word, waiting for their next opportunity to win. You’re a genius.JP

Felicidades Marta! 700 posts?Wow! No worries about the blogging frequency, because coming here is like having an afternoon cafecito cubano with a bunch of friends. And the giveaway? Great idea! That Cafe Cubano mug goes in perfect combination with my little Cuban coffee club at the office. (Yes, I have my three cups expresso coffeemaker, the can of Bustelo, the brown sugar and three little cups to light up the afternoons over here; and co-workers that email me around the given time to ask for the elixir ๐Ÿ˜‰
How does that sound. Will they survive the sleepless nights due to the caffeine overdoses?

Happily, my family was only separated for a few very tense months. But we were part of the lucky few who managed to leave the country rather quickly.Once reunited, my father vowed weโ€™d never be separated again and so when my older sisters were to be married in California, he packed up the family and we never looked back.We lived in Miami for the first 3 years of our exile, before my parents moved us across the country, and so we made our lives in Southern California. As Cubans in California โ€“ โ€œen el exilio del exilioโ€ โ€“ we managed to find other Cuban families and connected with the familiar community of people who spoke our language and recognized our customs and our food.Iโ€™ve told the story of my familyโ€™s exile many times using whatever words the Lord sees fit to give my feeble brain.Tonight, Iโ€™m a white haired 70 year old grandmother (call me Wella๐Ÿ˜‰) living in Southern California with the family my husband and I have created. My parents passed away years ago.
