My friend, Nora, posted about her love for Scrabble which gave me an idea for our family game night.
The snack, BTW, was my pastelitos de guayaba. 😉
So we got kind of psyched about our Scrabble game, and we pulled out the dusty old board.
(Hey, it’s actually pretty nice. Who knew?)
Somewhere along the line we picked up the Deluxe Edition with a lazy-susan type bottom, so you can spin it to face you as you’re playing. Nice.
It has been so long since we played that we had to actually read the rules (whoa!) and we determined that it would be boys against girls (the gender thing always seems to add to the competitiveness).
And we made sure we had a dictionary nearby.
Just in case . . . the boys tried to cheat.
They start arguing for "QUORDY."
"QUORDY??? You cannot be serious."
"And no. Just because it sounds real, doesn’t make "TIFOOD" a word."
I know. That’s sooo wrong.
"No way, guys. . .
KAZOOSTAIR is not a word in ANY language."
sheesh! =D

My darling girlfriend,Are you quite sure that Kazoostair isn’t a word? It’s quite possible that one could indeed make a staircase out of kazoos thus rendering each individual stair a kazoostair; stranger things have happened. Perhaps, even to you!
Perhaps I have been indoors too long!
Loving you,
Nora

I remember you telling me that you guys didn’t use the dictionary!!!!!!! I had a post about scrabble……using that same board! Our favorite Q standby is QAT on a tipple word square going both ways, if possible. So what were the scores??? My all time best is 417 (for prof… http://pampensiero.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html ). Did anyone get a true 7 letter word? A little more news for us scrabble fans….Do you mix English and Spanish? P.S. About Catalina, Gene and I think we both stayed at that hotel, and it isn’t there anymore. I think you have a fonder memory of what it was really like. It had a show made in the closet! And yes it was the bathing suit trip…..what color was it suppose to be? 😀 We survived 3 days and 2 nights with CJ! “I CANNOT BELIEVE IT!” (Quincy from Little Einsteins)

And one last comment….some of us over 50 crowd need a dictionary. You see, our brains don’t work that good (60’s, 70’s you know). And, some of use are word challenged. I’m telling you, I am killer at figuring out percentages and other math skills! Like: If the cafe makes $291.00 and the Bookstore makes $381.00 and fees for both are $72.00, how much did each source pay? I can do that!
Pam says
Answer: 291/672 = X/72672X=20952
X=31.18
So, the Cafe would pay $31.18 of the fees and the Bookstore would pay $40.82!
See how easy that was?????? I must be good for something 😀

Pam-WE got 378. And while I prefer not to use the dictionary, we had to have it handy because we were playing with CHEATERS. =D
I’ll do a math post for you one day, very soon. 😉

Kazoostair sounds like something out of Dr. Suess

I don’t care if it’s a word or not; I am SO going to add “kazoostair” to my vocabulary!
