Let me explain Cuban Gift Giving for just a moment. At least how it has always worked in my family.
The Scene: You’re at a family gathering, which for a Cuban family pretty much means any night of the week or stray weekend. You mention that you saw a cute ________ (<–insert name of cute thing you saw in passing) at a shop nearby while you were out doing things.
In our big, fat Cuban family that’s the same as saying: “And that’s what I want for Christmas.”
Being generous people we run right out and purchase the coveted thing and return home and triumphantly wrap it for Christmas.
Because we’re givers.
Cuban mothers, while notorious for saying a big, “no” to stuff you want to do, are also extremely generous and eager to please when it comes to gift giving.
So, let me help you get ahead of the curve. It’s the beginning of December and you have maybe started doing your shopping. You’re also a little bit stuck on what to get your grown daughters or your Tia Cuca. Let me help you with that.
I have a cool poster shop over on Etsy called MartaDarbyDesigns where I sell posters I’ve designed with favorite foods – mine is Cuban, of course – and I even have a Cafe Cubano poster. Because Cubana.
NOCHEBUENA
Of course, we Cubans as well as many other Latin countries celebrate and open gifts on December 24th. Our NocheBuena is one of my favorite celebrations of the year.
I’m thinking you may want to show off your heritage with this fabulous NocheBuena poster. It has all the foods we know and look forward to all year including “turrones and yuca con mojo.” All my posters come in generic sizes suitable for framing.
LAST DAY TO ORDER
All that to say this: The last day to order to get anything in time for Christmas is the 17th of December, 2018.
I want to make sure you get your gifts in time for Noche Buena and Christmas Day.
The latest poster I’ve added to my shop is this Cafe Cubano in 7 colors. Someone on your list totally needs this.
Please visit MartaDarbyDesigns on Etsy. My tag line is “Subway Word Art to Make You Happy.” I’m a Cuban mother (and now abuela) – I LIVE to make my people happy. I’m super grateful to have this opportunity to share my love of all things Cuban with all of you.
If you were thinking of getting one of my posters for your people, I would urge you to order soon. Because December 17th will get here before you know it. And I know you don’t want to disappoint your Tia Cuca on Noche Buena.
Just got my Nochebuena and Cuban posters. love them!
