“Senk Got Ees Fraidei” (read in Spanglish, please)

April 22, 2011 By Marta Darby 12 Comments

My mom, Luza, who is 97 is still constantly reading and learning.

She just recently learned that TGIF meant "Thank God it's Friday." She liked that. A lot.

So every Friday when she comes over here, she starts the weekend with her version, which sounds more like:

"Senk yu, Lort, eet ees Fraidei!" (But that's not important right now.)

Here's Luza wishing you a Happy Friday. (Or is it, "Fraidei….?")

Japi Fraidei! from my mom and the rest of my big, fat, Cuban family. =D

Marta, I have been reading your blog for a few years. I am terrible at commenting but your moms TGIF video toke me over the edge. SHe brought me tears of joy while I sat behind my desk. My grandmom passed away two years ago and I could see so much of her in your beloved mother. She had so many funny spanglish words. She lived in Mia and when ever we spoke on Fridays she would tell me that she was getting ready to go to PUBLIX (I am sure you know the spanglish version of that store PUBLI) Be greatful for every day, every moment you share with her. Take as many videos as you can. Memories are all we have when our loved ones move on. 97 years old, wow she looks so strong and healthy. Que Dios la bendiga y le de muchos años mas para que comparte con ustedes.Susie

Precious – made me wish I could hear my sweet Mom’s British accent again. One day in Heaven I will hear her say “Oh good, Prudence is here. Lets have a cuppa tea!”X0
