WARNING: SUPER Dork Alert!
Yes, I admit it. I’m a big sappy dork when it comes to my home and my family.
And, like any good dork, I admit that I have always childishly wanted a house with "a white picket fence." I know. Uber-dork.
I probably read too many books in the Anne-of-Green-Gables/Nancy-Drew genre as a child. The white picket fence was always symbolic to me of everything good and wholesome in American culture. Yes, I know that I’m Cuban. But I’ve lived here in the U.S. much longer than I did in Cuba. And the white picket fence speaks to me of love and comfort and of happily-ever-after.
I love my little home. It has a sweet cottage feel to it and I always thought a picket fence would be the perfect finishing touch. But our home is old and it needs new plumbing and paint and lots of other things, so the fence thing fell into the wish-list category. (SIGH)
Until now.
Look at what my wonderful husband spent his weekend doing…
Isn’t it wonderful?? I am so deliriously happy about this fence. (Besides, the little rat-dog next door can’t come over and poop on our lawn anymore, but that’s not important right now.)
The neighbors have been wandering by all weekend watching Eric work and commenting on how great it looks. His hard work really paid off and I’m so very pleased with My White Picket Fence. =D
This sums it up perfectly. . .
Marge: Homer is this how you pictured married life?
Homer: Yeah, pretty much, except we drove around in a van solving mysteries.

I SO get that! I also love the white picket fence and all that it means and that is one of the reasons I knew this house was ours…the fence. Even though the fence we have doesn’t go with the style of our house I know it was put there by the previous owners just so three years ago I would KNOW KNOW KNOW it was my house when we were busy house hunting. And so it was…and this May we celebrate three years living in our little Mayberry on Sedona :o)

VERY NICE! Is Momo categorized as a “little rat-dog”?
Marta says

Pam –
Momo is on our very short list of Tolerable Dogs. 😉

Never underestimate the power of the picket (fence). You can’t overstate the importance of a fence like that, not to mention the man who will build it for his woman. Such a thing adds meaning and sweetness to our lives and punctuates our emotional landscape. Your man would do anything for you not just because he loves you but because you appreciate it so.Besides, a lovely fence is infinitely more of a turn on than new paint!

BYOOOOOTIFUL! :-)Mike is trying to find a place where he can learn how to build drystone walls of Cotswold stone (the local stone, a lovely honey-colored limestone).

Not quite white picket, but it will do, especially with some roses climbing over it…!

What a man! Not only did he give you your fence, but he built it FROM SCRATCH! Men are supposed to be able to build and fix things. That is all.
