I’m so jaded.
I forget that we live such a privileged lifestyle.
I take so much for granted.
Until I have an out of town visitor who, every time I show him something declares he’s never seen anything like it before.
Like Sprinkles.
There was a "cola." A line snaking out of the front door and wrapping around the shops.
The people seemed absolutely content to stand in the line. They waited patiently. Quietly. Courteously.
To buy cupcakes. CUPCAKES, people!
"No lo creo." ("I don’t believe it.")
Welcome to Newport Beach, California. Home of the three dollar and twenty-five cent cupcake. And the endless line of patient consumers waiting for their cupcake fix.
It seems wrong somehow to spend that much for a cupcake, I know.
A little decadent.
I agree.
But we stood patiently in line and waited our turn. (Which you have to admit was a lovely demonstration of the civility of a democratic society, but that’s not important right now.)
And happily forked over the $3.25 for the cupcake.
Did I feel guilty?
Maybe for just a moment, until I took that very first bite.
Guilt? What? Where?
Perfection, Red Velvet is thy name. =D
Pam says
Was it the whole muffin or just the top? 🙂 I feel like I am from a completely different country as well. No one waits in line for cup cakes and/or muffins. But, maybe muffin tops……… (do you know your Seinfeld?)
kristen Benson says
I do, Pam. A very good episode. Like Marti, we don’t have TV but we do have EVERY episode of Seinfeld, I Love Lucy, Little House, MacGyver (thanks for reminding me of that show, Marti, We gave the set to Andrew for Christmas and he LOVES it) and the Brady Bunch (I couldn’t have my kids grow up and not get the whole “Marcia, Marcia, Marcia’, ‘Ohhh, my nose!’ or ‘Pork chops and applesauce”)BTW, I think even better than the muffin top episode is the Soup Nazi. I love NO SOUP FOR YOU!
Marta says
Pam & Kristen,I don’t know about the muffin top (Seinfeld loser). But I’m all about the Soup Nazi. You guys crack me up. =D
Ody from Miami Lakes says
Compared to Cold Stone Creamery, which sell ice cream close to $5.00 each and there’s always a long line, those cupcakes looks so delicious for $3.25. I went to their site and voted for the next Sprinkles store to come to Miami!!!!!
Marta says
Ody -A Sprinkles store in Miami! Now THAT would be perfection!
Besos,
M
