Back then I just had to worry about feeding and clothing and bathing and nurturing and kissing boo-boos and keeping the cat from being choked. (=D)
Today there are fires burning everywhere in So Cal. Everywhere.
There is a layer of ash on everything outside and we have been told to keep our windows shut tight. I don’t think any fire will actually reach us, but because of the ridiculously high winds, anything can happen.
My next door neighbor is hosing down his roof as a precautionary measure. It makes me think twice, but that’s not what worries me.
Phone call from Amy:
"We’re on alert here at work. We may have to evacuate. I’ll let you know. Gotta go. Bye!"
I didn’t have time to recover from that bit of news when the phone rings again. This time it’s Adam.
"Mom, the fire is coming over the ridge. Can I spend the night if I need to?"
Of course. OF COURSE!
And then I impotently add: "Be safe."
THIS is why I pray.
(really heavy and prayerful SIGH.)

My best friend moved to West Irvine in June. He emailed me last night to advise that they are on alert also. Please be safe! You’re in my thoughts, chica.

Thinking of you lots! Bill and Kari and family (and animals, except the pig, alas) had to evacuate their house in Fallbrook. They’re staying at the Knudsens in Lake Forest. But that doesn’t look too far from another fire! Bill and Robin are okay, as are Al and Paula D (at least so far).Maybe I should send you some of our floodwaters from here in England…..
Praying for you with love.
