Thanks to all of you who entered The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Giveaway over the weekend.
The correct answer to the "How many dwarves?" question is "13."
They are: Fili, Kili, Dori, Nori, Ori, Oin, Gloin, Dwalin, Balin, Bifur, Bofur,
Bombur and Thorin Oakenshield. The two youngest are Fili and Kili. Thorin
Oakenshield is royalty.
When my kids were little, when we got to the parts where it was time, we would recite the names of the dwarves and they would always yell "Thorin Oakenshield!" at the end of the list. *stops and enjoys a personal mom moment* (I know. Shut up.)
Some Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit trivia: Gimli the Dwarf is Gloin's son. Also, Gimli finds Balin's tomb in Moria. But then, if you were truly a Tolkien über-nerd, you would totally know that, but that's not important right now.
To pick a winner, I entered the number of entries into the True Random Number Generator at Random.org and the following number came up:

Hi Martha-I know this is not a Christmas related Blog entry but the month is marching on fast. I too know from being a regular reader of yours that the tree does not go up until almost the 24th but I also know your love for Cubans and all things related to us. Therefore, living in Miami-Dade county ( I am a transplant I grew up in New Jersey)I found a couple of Christmas (I too know how found you are of Christmas and entertaining from your blog entries)items to share with you that I found in my holiday shopping (I too adore Christmas, entertaining, Cubans and all things Cuban!). I came across a manufactured bottle of Crema de Vie (as you know or may not our recipes are being taken all over the place-very sad because our culinary culture is very unique and beautiful which we owe to the labor of our greats- grandmothers, mothers, aunts, etc.. ) Therefore my excitement when I saw “Genuine Creme de Vie” bottled by Perdomo & Company from Pewaukee, WI. was overwhelming. Navarro in Miami-dade, whose ownership is no longer Cuban, sells it. I also came across a new Christmas album by Willy Chirino-“Llego La Navidad” (also for sale at Navarro). I know from past Christmas blog entries that you favor to make homemade Crema de Vie but maybe there are others in your circle that don’t have the time. I have not tried the “Crema Fina” (main name on bottle, then Creme de Vie appears in finer print),although I did purchase it, because I am waiting for the 24th so that I don’t break away from tradition. So my recommendation here is that I found OUR Crema de Vie manufactured not that I tasted as of yet and recommend it for its taste.
