My daughter, Lucy has been out in Texas for almost a year. She’s recently moved back to California but is still remotely working for the same company and she happens to be out in Austin this very week for work.
Of course, this is also the week that Texas is getting pummeled by Hurricane Harvey. The images of the devastation have reduced me to tears more times this week than I care to count. I have a blogger friend who lost everything. Everything.
And my daughter is there.
She’s safe and dry in Austin (thank God!) but because she is there, that’s where my heart is. Moms, I know you totally get this.
I was doing laundry this morning and I folded this…
We bought this very cool shirt when we visited Waco in May. Texas Forever. Of course.
Then tears start once again. I’m feeling quite impotent, but I know there are so many ways to contribute to those in need, that I decided I’d make that my focus today. These folks will spend months and months recovering from the devastation. And you can help.
Here’s a list (with links) of places where you can donate to the relief efforts. These are charities that I’ve already vetted. Do what you can.
Magnolia (where we purchased the original Texas Forever shirt) – from August 28th to September 30th all the proceeds from the purchase of this shirt will be donated to Harvey hurricane disaster relief efforts.
My girl’s return flight has been delayed until the middle of next week because of the difficulties in getting fuel from one place to another. But she will eventually be back home and I’m relieved to know she’s safe.
We are praying for all those affected by Harvey and these terrible floods. Our prayers lately always seem to end with “Texas Forever.” (I think God likes that hashtag, but that’s not important right now.)

Thank you for your kind words. I’m a Texan born and raised. I shed tears with you. I’m glad your heart is safe here and will be home soon. This hurricane has affected my city tremendously. My city under water it’s so unreal , never seen anything like it. The lives and families lost etc.. I am thankful for everyone who has helped my city and state. I only hope and pray that the UNITY will Stay and flood America not the rain. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS.
Losing everything is sad, we lost our home, cars, clothes, kids toys, memories… Everything… After we were safe..
My husband said all we need is coffee and dominoes to forget all the bad… And for the kids let them play… And run… Cubans we’re survivors… We’ll make it through.
Hola Martha, te faltó la comida Venezolana, muy parecida a la Colombiana. Me ecantan los posters! Saludos. Laura
