I am doing all the usual things I do on a daily basis.
But today I'm also preparing for our Washington D.C. & New York trip. We leave the day after tomorrow and I'll be mobile blogging while there, but that's not important right now.
We are going with our homeschool group and are pretty excited. Well, the kids are excited…
I'm still running around crossing off items from four separate to-do lists and making sure everyone has what they need.
"Today's the day," I reminded them, "that you need to make sure you have clean (ahem..) stuff and lay everything out so that we can pack."
Of course, I can't ask them to do something I'm not willing to do myself, so I obediently start digging in my closet and find that I have a bunch of SAHM (stay-at-home-mom) clothes. In other words, my entire wardrobe consists of jeans and t-shirts.
Not only that, but most of my t-shirts appear to be BLACK.
Apparently I'm a little depressed here. They're not all identical either. There are long, short and 3/4 sleeves. V-necks and scoop necks and one with some beading. (I think there are two more black t's in the laundry.) I also have 2 fabulous black sweaters. (I know. Shut up.)
"Black, Marta? Really? That doesn't sound like you."
I know! It seemed odd to me, too. There's some disconnect here somewhere. I choose a lot of black for my wardrobe. Maybe it's because we go to a lot of concerts and black t's with jeans and black boots is de rigeur concert-going attire in So Cal.
If I wasn't depressed before, I was certainly depressed with my closet findings.
"I'm going shopping!" I must have sounded like I was seriously going to spend money, because both Lucy and Jonathan agreed to come along. =D
So I shopped. And shopped. And I mixed and matched and I came up with quite a pleasing no-repeat wardrobe for our trip that makes me totally happy.
Eric's reaction to my colorful haul layed out on the bed: "Wow. Everything looks so Cuban!"
It is as I suspected. I'm much more of a colorful personality. Now I'll be dressing the part. =D
So, just out of curiosity, how does it work for you?
1) Dressing in bright colors makes you feel happier.
2) You're so happy that you naturally gravitate towards bright colors.
3) Color doesn't matter, it's "whatever fits" that counts.
4) You go to a lot of concerts too, and wear black because it makes you feel like you look cool.
5) You think I should really not blog about this and just discuss it with a therapist. 😉

I have the “you need color!” ingrained from my dominican upbringing. Plus with my skintone I look best in reds, bright pinks and even dark peaches/orangish shades. I do love me some black so I temper the brights with neutrals. And hey, if we start to prohibit silly blogging about 75% of us would need to close up shop. Have a great trip!
I once had my colors done by a professional (who is also a friend of ours). He insisted that I wear muted colors. Muted!!! That means “Shut Up”. LOL!!!! He said that with my bubbly personality (being a joyful Cuban), I shouldn’t wear bright colors. It was better to see “Me” and not the clothes I was wearing at first impression. He also said that black was defiantly not my color. The funny thing was that every time I wore black, he would comment on how beautiful I looked in black. And every time I wear my bright pinks, corals and oranges, and even royal blue, I get a lot of compliments. It must be my bubbly “muted” personality. HA!!
Besides, con Black te mueres de calor in DC!
I already have my own personal summer happening most days anyway… 😉
Marta, mami is always all over me because most of my clothes are also…ejem…black. I might be in the group that needs therapy sessions to go away of the idea that black makes you look thinner; but I rather spend that to go shopping!I’m also taking a trip to a warmer destination in two days -pleasure+work-(what a coincidence! I swear I can not see your calendar from here)and, indeed, I got myself some bright colored outfits!
