I feel weird.
I am not cooking, nor am I hosting my big, fat, Cuban family for Thanksgiving this year.
The hostess honor falls to my sister, Alina who, I should just add right here, is a wonderful hostess with a much, much bigger house, but that's not important right now.
And we Darbys are going to dine with Eric's family, which I'm really looking forward to since my mother-in-law is a fabulous (!!) cook.
But still… I feel weird.
No last minute shopping.
No cleaning frenzy.
No moving furniture into other rooms. (=D)
No centerpieces or placeholders.
No cleaning up for hours afterward.
I don't have to do a thing.
Nothing.
Nada.
Zip.
Zilch.
It's a weird feeling. Because usually I'm doing so much.
Let me take a moment to muse about this…. I may just sit around in my PJ's all day…
because….hmm…..
No last minute shopping!
No cleaning frenzy!
No moving furniture into other rooms!!!! (=D)
No centerpieces or placeholders!
No cleaning up for hours afterward!
I don't have to do a thing!
Nothing!
Nada!
Zip!
Zilch!
I get to show up and relax and totally enjoy my time with my family and remember how blessed I am and that I lead a charmed life. And I don't want to ever take that for granted.
And, yes, it's weird for me. But I'm REALLY, REALLY grateful. 😉
Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone!
And may God richly bless you.
Happy thanksgiving to you and yours, Marti. The cooking falls upon me this year – the turkey is in. I marinated it with a mixture of mustard, mojo, and onions and filled the inside with a bunch of onions, celery, and other aromatic veggies that I had. I don’t stuff the bird, since as a Cuban I am still very very confused about stuffing (my MIL is making it!).
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoy your day off!
We go to my parent’s house in “Hialeah” and havethe traditional and Cuban Thanksgiving dinner. We eat
turkey and Ham, string bean casserole, and cranberry sauce, but we also have white rice and black beans, yuca etc. And for dessert, pecan pie, pumpkin pie and my mom’s specialty torcinillo del cielo. It is to die for. I rather eat the torcinillo than anything else. And believe me, it shows. LOL!!! 😉 May you have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving MBFCF friends!!!!!
Look at that fabulous pedicure!
A big fat happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! Eat tons! Off to my mom’s where the turkey will taste just like lechon!
Marti,I love Elena Ruz sandwiches!!! Here in Miami some
restaurants call it “Helen Ruth” as the name for the sandwich. This name always led me to think that Helen Ruth must have been an America vacationing in Cuba at some point. LOL!!! 😉 Oh…so toasty and right out of the sandwich press on media noche bread. Yummy!!!
Hi Marta, I hope you had a blessed thanksgiving. We did! We ran away to Mickeyland, and had a blast. No turkey, cheeseburgers for Thanksgiving dinner. That’s ok, we said a prayer and thanked God for our family. That’s what counts, right? I am glad you got to rest, well at least for one day.;)
