It’s still party time here at My Big Fat Cuban Family. As you know we are celebrating 10 whole years in the blogosphere. As promised, I’d like to kick off the Celebration with the first of some very Cuban Giveaways.
If you haven’t already heard of Abuela Mami, you are seriously missing out! I gushed wrote about them here.
I know it’s hard for people who live in Miami to even fathom that it may be difficult to get any Cuban products. But please understand that there’s not a Publix on every corner in every city. Here in Southern California procuring guayaba or mojo criollo requires a road trip. Some people don’t even have that luxury.
So for those of you who want a piece of home delivered every month right to your doorstep, they’ve got you covered. This subscription service is everything you’ve wanted.
Picture this beautiful scene: The mailman delivers your mail along with a small brown package with that cool Abuela Mami logo. Your heart skips a beat as you realize there will be a wonderfully Cuban surprise inside. You slowly rip into the box to find items both familiar and iconic. It’s going to be a wonderful day.
And you get to experience this EVERY. MONTH. Genius. Seriously. Watch this!

There are so many Cuban things I miss from living my whole life in Miami, growing up in La Pequena Havana, that it’s hard to make a decision! I guess I really miss walking to the bakery on the weekend and getting a fresh, hot from the oven Cuban bread and eating half it on the way back home. In Missouri, my new home, bakery means doughnuts and turnovers ): not empanadas, pastelitos, y CROQUETAS!

Vino Seco Edmundo, it gives Cuban food that nostalgic flavor of my mother’s cooking. You miss Cuban items that you never ate in Miami, but just knowing you cannot find them at the grocery store makes you want them.
My example was Pan de Media Noche and Cuban Crackers. Publix is now stocking some Cuban items and a Latin Market opened up in town…………………yeah. I’m only 2 hours from a Sedano’s.
Samantha says
My mom who still lives in Tampa mails me pasta de guayaba on occasion ?? but I still want more of it! And I miss cuban bread so much, cuban toast on French bread is not the same

Hola! Since I moved I really miss Pan Cubano. I’ve tried to visit restaurants listed as Cuban, but they only serve Puerto Rican bread. It’s okay, but it JUST not the same. I’ve also tried to make it; the taste is good, but it doesn’t have the crunch and the airiness of true Pan Cubano. A crucial part of cuban meals, especially Cuban Breakfast, pan is essential and cannot be replaced with anything else when making pan tostado con mantequilla or any type of cuban sandwich. Uff, if i could eat some pan cubano, I would make myself a café con leche, with a pinch of salt like my grandmother made it, so I could dunk my pan tostado con mantequilla in it.
Jennifer says
I recently moved to Colorado and I’m so home sick! We take our little things for granted… I totally miss tostadas and the ease of buying una colada. I also believe it or not naranja agria and un palo de trapear!! ? I had to order one on amazon along with the orange frazada!! Would love some abuela mami stuff!!
Leticia says

My abuela’s croquetas, natilla and pasta de guayana is what I would miss if I didn’t have them but the one item I would truly miss if I had to go without is Mojo criollo. It goes in almost all of my dishes and seasonings.
