Hi. I’m Marta and I have naturally curly hair. (“Hi, Marta.”)
I know my hair looks smooth and straight in all the photos you've ever seen of me, but that's because I go through great pains and pay big bucks to get it done.
And I realized as I was writing this that I started straightening it about a year before I started blogging. So you won't see me here on my blog with my original curly hair.
Today, I tell the story about my hair insecurities and my ongoing struggles to tame my Naturally Curly Hair over at the Tiki Tiki.
Here's my amazing hairdresser, Kate Berry, who straightened my hair a lá Brazilian Blowout. We documented all the fun and made a short film.
Please enjoy:

It's fabulous, no? =D

oh…i’ve defenitely fought my whole life with my curly hair, from straightner to straightner, from treatment to treatment…finally 2 yrs ago I found the Keratin Treatment (Brazilian) and i love it. I’m due for another treatment very soon! you look MAH-velous!oh and my favorite nickname (to be read sarcastically) given to me during my childhood “Cuban Afro-Puff”
😛

Marta, is this the brazilian keratin treatment? I’ve had the one done where you can’t wash or wet your hair AT ALL for 4 days, not even put it in a ponytail (it will cause a permanent dent in your hair). She washed it out right away? Wow…how long does it last you? I am in a constant battle with my hair, not only with the frizz, but now with the grays.I had my last treatment done about 3 1/2 months ago, and it’s time for a new one.
It’s like my Mom always used to say to me and my 3 sisters: “Para pelo bonito, hay que aguantar jalones” (or something like that, lol). In other words, be prepared to have your hair pulled if you want it to look pretty!
Enjoy your brazilian!

HA! You’re such an unruly Cuban!!!!! LOL!!!!

Michele,I maintain that it’s much more about “taming” than straightening. If we could find a way to make our curls stay under control, we would so do it, right?
Don’t get me started on the nicknames….

Angela,I’ve “aguantado mucho” over the hair battle. Is it so much to just want it to look okay? =D
It’s wet and rainy here today and my Brazilian is holding up. WIN!
Marta M. Darby says
Ody,I’ve been called worse things than “unruly.” LOL!
To be honest, I think I’m the ONLY Cuban Kate knows. =D
Besos!

I feel your pain, in a backwards sort of way. I had poker straight hair until I was 32. Then it got curly. Specifically, Jon Bon Jovi circa 1987 curly. Once I got it layered the day before I turned 40 it was a lot easier to tame. Otherwise, I get mobbed outside by the groupies. 🙂
