My Two Favorite Dolls

December 21, 2010 By Marta Darby 10 Comments

As a child, I played with dolls. A lot. In fact, constantly.

I had two that were my favorites. I had a Chatty Cathy doll. The kind with the pull string in the back that made her talk. And talk. And talk.

Chatty-cathy

And a Skipper doll. Barbie's little sister. She had the coolest wardrobe ever.

Skipper

I loved these two beauties so much that one day, I decided in my childish imagination, I'd have two daughters and they would each look just like my two favorite dolls…

Chatty Cathy:

Amy

And Skipper:

Maybe it was a prayer, because obviously, I got my wish. 😉

Loved playing with Barbies. Back in the day, it was just the one doll but with multiple outfits. It was the dressing up part that I loved. *sigh*(I got a Baby Beans for Amy. Pink, of course.)

When I was a little girl, my grandfather use to work for Lionel Playworld. He used to keep the store clean, and free of broken and open boxes of toys from the floor. Back in the day, (early 70’s), if children opened the boxes of toys and broke them, the toys would be thrown away! I know, SHUT UP!!! LOL!!! Anyway, that didn’t last long, as a new regularion came out a short time later that every toy box that was broken, or any toy missing parts, would now be able to be returned for a full refund from the distributors. DARN!!! But right before this rule came out, my grandfather would bring me one or two Barbies a week. This lasted for months! I can’t even tell you how many I owned, but my all time favorite was Skipper. Something about her natural homey look that caught my eye. I loved Barbie, but Skipper was my fave. 😉 Oh, and he would also bring me the GI Joes from the Boy’s department. It was always a party when I played with my barbies!!!! LOL!!!You’re girls are beautiful, as is their mom!!!!
    Beso, Ody

Ody!Thanks for sharing that story. One of the highlights of moving to California for us was going to the Mattel factory – HOME of Barbie! LOL!
I still love Skipper. And I wish I still had Chatty Cathy.
But, having my two girls is the greatest blessing of all.
    Besos!
